About

Alexander College is a private post-secondary institution serving approximately 3,000 students each year. Established in 2006 under the British Columbia Ministry of Advanced Education, Alexander College consists of two urban campuses located in Burnaby and Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Alexander College offers a variety of undergraduate degree and transfer programs including University Transfer, Associate of Arts degree and Associate of Science degree. An integrated English for Academic Purposes program is also available to assist non-native English speakers with their transition to university level studies in the English language.


Alexander College helps young people benefit from participating in the higher education community. The school provides the first two years of university study leading to an Associate degree and university transfer in a student-centered and supportive environment. Alexander College aims to provide a serious and supportive learning environment where students with a variety of cultural backgrounds and language abilities can begin university study, while simultaneously improving their English-language skills. Alexander College also fosters individual growth and development by supporting each student’s academic achievement and involvement in the community life of the College. 


Why Alexander College

  • Campus: Facilities at the Burnaby campus include spacious classrooms, science laboratory, the Writing and Learning Centre, library, and bookstore. The Burnaby campus is centrally located in Downtown Burnaby, just one block from the Metrotown Skytrain Station.
  • Location: Burnaby is a large suburb located in the geographic centre of the Greater Vancouver Regional District. Alexander College’s Burnaby Campus is located on the corner of McKay Street and Kingsway, one block from one of the largest shopping centres in Canada, Metrotown Shopping Centre.  
  • Enhanced Teaching Environment: Students will get to learn from well qualified, fully engaged staff and instructors available to provide student-centered support. Students will also benefit from small class sizes, with limits set at 35 students or less for all subjects.
  • Supportive Learning Environment: Alexander College offers full transferable courses within the BC Transfer System to colleges and universities within BC. Free tutoring is available for all courses, and students can access personalized academic planning, advising services and individualized support in the Writing and Learning Centre.
  • Extracurricular Activities: At Alexander College, students can run their very own club or initiative. There is a wide variety of inclusive and interactive clubs, events, and indoor/outdoor activities that are organized and run exclusively by students, for the students.

3 out of 12 programs are eligible for Post Graduation Work Permit.

The Post-Graduation Work Permit Program (PGWPP) allows students who have graduated from a participating Canadian post-secondary institution to gain valuable Canadian work experience.

The IRCC has published a preliminary list of programs that are eligible for the PGWPP. Based on our current knowledge, which is subject to change, these programs align with five field of study categories:

  • agriculture and agri-foods
  • healthcare
  • science/technology/engineering/mathematics (STEM)
  • trade
  • transport

    Cooperative education (or co-operative education) and internships are methods of combining classroom-based education with practical work experience. A cooperative education experience ("co-op"), provides academic credit for structured job experience. Co-ops are full-time, paid or unpaid positions. Internships may be full-time or part-time, paid or unpaid positions.
    Even if you do NOT meet our minimum English requirement (IELTS or TOEFL), you still can get conditionally accepted in the program of your choice with the condition of completing our English program prior to starting your chosen program.

    Students need to plan their accommodations well in advance of their arrival as all accommodation options fill up quickly, well before the start of the semester.

    On-Campus Residence Accommodations

    On-Campus residence accommodations are provided per discretion by the school.

    Off-Campus Accommodations

    The local area has a variety of off-campus rental housing options including single homes, duplexes, apartments and rooms for rent. Students wishing to live off-campus need to research availability on their own and should arrive well before the start of term to do so.

    Homestay

    There are a wide variety of homestay options available, and our partners do their best to match students and hosts according to their interests and preferences. Homestay hosts include single people, young couples with children and pets, and older couples. All homestay accommodations have been inspected, and all adults in the home have completed a required criminal reference check.
