Bachelor of Arts - College of Letters, Art, and Social Science - Pre-Health Professional Program - Pre-Medical Scientist and Technician

4-Year Bachelor's Degree

Program Summary

The pre-medical laboratory scientist focus is an advising program to help students select courses and become well prepared for application to a medical laboratory scientist program.

The steps toward their career begin by taking the required courses, completing a bachelor’s degree, and gaining the required clinical experience. Course work will include chemistry, organic chemistry, biochemistry, general biology, microbiology, immunology, pathogenic bacteriology, and math. Common pre-medical laboratory science majors include medical sciences and microbiology. Students should also seek out opportunities to shadow health care professionals to evaluate their interest in the field.

These steps are prerequisites for applying to an accredited medical laboratory science program for one additional year of specialized training and completion of a certification exam.
