Program Description

The English program at Grenfell Campus, Memorial University allows students to work toward a bachelor of arts with a major in English and a minor in another subject area. Memorial University offers education in English literature and creative writing within the framework of a liberal arts degree program.

Grenfell's English program includes key courses that give each student a strong understanding of the essential aspects of English literature. The courses also focus on specific areas of English studies, including:

  • Canadian literature
  • Dramatic literature
  • Modern literature
  • Creative writing

The English program at Grenfell expands each student's creativity, imagination, and critical thinking. There is a particular focus on creative writing and instructors expose each student to different worldviews through literature, allowing them to analyze culture, world events, and their own daily encounters in a new way.

This program enables students to:

  • Explore both classic and modern literature, from medieval epics to contemporary graphic novels.
  • Better understand the social and cultural conditions of people throughout history.
  • Grasp the changing views and attitudes related to concepts like beauty and truth.
  • Understand the joys and sorrows of others, and make sense of the events that shape us.
  • Learn ways to engage with the world around them and appreciate the diversity of cultural work done by writers in Canada and around the world.

  • Memorial University of Newfounland will have an increase in their tuition prices starting Fall 2022. Cost of tuition will be $20,000 per year, for all new Students starting in Fall 2022 and later. The current prices are valid only for the January 2022 and May 2022 Intakes.
