School of Art approach visual learning through an interdisciplinary lens, where studio art and art history are integrated, ensuring students have a broad understanding of today’s rich contemporary art landscape and have the tools to build a strong career path.

Balancing formal and technical learning with conceptual development, the School supports a diversity of approaches to contemporary art production with a growing focus on Indigenous practices and knowledge. 

University of Manitoba’s acclaimed faculty of practicing artists and scholars activate classroom learning with their research, visual lectures, group critiques, workshops, visiting speakers, and community partnerships. 

The main hub of the School of Art is the award-winning ARTlab building, which boasts purpose-built facilities that accommodate traditional and expanded studio practices, as well as digital technologies, for experimentation and research.
