Program Description

This degree, designed for high-achieving secondary school leavers, provides the opportunity for students to progress directly into the Doctor of Medicine (5099).

In first year, students will be introduced to the basic sciences underpinning medical science - anatomy, chemistry, biochemistry, genes and disease, law and ethics, microbiology, physiology, and epidemiology. They will also undertake a course in "interpersonal skills" which provides them with knowledge and skills in communication and interaction with patients.

In second year, students will study these areas in greater depth and take medically focused courses in immunology, infectious disease, pharmacology, metabolism, structural biochemistry, and molecular genetics, as well as undertaking a capstone course (Integrated Medical Sciences) which integrates and applies the knowledge of basic sciences learned in first and second years to solving clinical problems.
