Program Description

Economics is a versatile field that deals with the analysis and management of production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. Economics gives us the analytical tools to understand questions such as how prices are determined, why some people are unemployed, why interest rates rise and fall, and why product are traded between nations.

Memorial offers major, minor and honours programs leading to either a bachelor of arts (BA) or bachelor of science (B.Sc.) in economics.

Memorial also offers applied economics courses in a wide variety of areas, including fishery, petroleum and mining, forestry, environmental, development, international, monetary, public sector, welfare, labour and health economics.

Students who study economics at Memorial can choose to complete the major as part of a bachelor of arts or bachelor of science degree and may choose to complete the Economics Co-operative Education Option (ECEO). Direct admission to this major and co-op option is not available at the time of application. Students must complete certain first-year courses before declaring the major. Admission to the co-op option is competitive for a limited number of spaces.

Please note: Memorial University of Newfounland will have an increase in their tuition prices starting Fall 2022. Cost of tuition will be $20,000 per year, for all new Students starting in Fall 2022 and later. The current prices are valid only for the January 2022 and May 2022 Intakes.
