Program Description

Western Michigan University prepares its civil engineering students to help plan, design and oversee construction and maintenance of everything from roads and bridges to airports and power plants. Students in this program will be able to apply knowledge of traditional mathematics, science and engineering skills to identify and solve engineering problems. Technology is continuously changing this profession, so students will need to commit to lifelong learning to have knowledge of contemporary issues.

Beyond the classroom
Civil engineering students at WMU will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on projects with local industry, qualify for our departmental scholarships, and become a member of the Sunseeker solar racing team. WMU's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences also has more than 25 student organizations open to students, including the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Association of General Contractors.
