Program Summary

The FIU Global First Year Program combines credit-bearing courses from the first year of a student’s degree with additional support services, instruction tailored to their academic and language level, and cultural experiences to ensure their future success. The Global First Year experience goes beyond academic, language, and cultural growth by offering the Career Accelerator program, which provides valuable professional skills for a successful career.

The Career Accelerator program is specifically designed for international students and includes:

Four semesters of professional development and career guidance

Skills-based training and exclusive internship opportunities

Workshops, real-world experiences, and cross-cultural group work

The BS degree in Physics at FIU prepares students for careers as professional physicists in industry, government, or graduate study in physics, engineering, or material science. It also prepares students for teaching careers. Students interested in teacher certification should contact the School of Education.

Students have the opportunity to work with the Department’s faculty members in research labs focusing on areas such as Astrophysics, Experimental Nuclear Physics, Nano and Bio Research, Quantum Optics, and Theoretical Solid State Physics. Some students present their research results at national conferences and publish them in journals. The Department’s laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation.
