Program Summary

The University of Central Missouri’s Master of Arts in Communication allows students to specialize in the areas of personal, community, professional, and/or media-based communication contexts. This program builds upon prior study and experience in communication (or a closely related field) preparing students for advanced work in communication professions or continued academic study in pursuit of a terminal degree.

Students can take a variety of courses in leadership, group communication, communication research methods, managing conflict, verbal and nonverbal communication, message design, persuasion, and media’s impact on society.

After completing a master’s degree in Communication, students may qualify for upper-level jobs in fields such as news, social media, advertising, marketing, government, administration/promotion for K-12, public relations, sales, and human relationships, or prepare for postgraduate degrees.

The Master of Arts in Communication has two different areas that can be selected, Area 1 Applied Communication or Area 2 Communication Studies.
