The MA Social Work program at Cardiff University is approved by Social Care Wales, ensuring that graduates are eligible for professional registration. Upon completion of the program, individuals will have a comprehensive understanding of the ethics and values of social work, as well as the necessary skills for social work practice and critical analysis of laws pertaining to children, families, and adult care. Additionally, students will explore the fundamental theories and perspectives that underpin social work policy and practice.
Throughout their time at Cardiff University, students will have the opportunity to enhance their research and analytical abilities in relation to social work practice and policy. They will also develop techniques for professional reflective practice. To further apply their knowledge and develop workplace skills, students will engage in three Practice Learning Placements, totaling 200 days over the course of two years. These placements are facilitated in collaboration with one of the nine Local Authorities in Wales. By working with diverse individuals who utilize social services and pursuing these practical experiences, students will be able to effectively apply their theoretical knowledge to real-life situations.
