Master of Laws - International Business and Commercial Law with Professional Development Planning

Master's Degree

Program Summary

The world of work is changing. Many of the issues facing clients are international. The LLM International Business and Commercial Law programme is designed for those wanting to work with international clients, and provides a comprehensive understanding of the legal issues that businesses face through setting up and operating internationally, as well as the practical legal skills needed to advise those clients.

Using commercial case studies, students will study the key areas of law: business, intellectual property, commercial contracts, trade and dispute resolution, in an international context. The practical approach will explore the lifecycle of an international business looking to set up, raise money and conduct business, transactions and contracts. Students will also learn what happens to an international business when things go wrong – looking at corporate insolvency, disputes and arbitration. During the course students will develop their legal skills and knowledge in an international commercial setting, while exploring current topics in contemporary legal practice such as legal technology, innovation and sustainability. Students will finish with a professional research project where they will have the opportunity to undertake practical research in an area of law or commercial practice in the international context of their choice.

The 18-month programme includes the Professional Development Planning Programme (PDP). The PDP programme can contribute to students' success at finding jobs and post-study work visa opportunities. The Placements team works with an extensive range of employers to find work placement opportunities for students. Please note that placements may vary in length and may be paid or unpaid, physical or virtual.
