Program Summary
Completed over eighteen months of full-time study, the Master of Primary Teaching is aimed at students who already hold a Bachelor’s degree but wish to gain the required skills and knowledge to become a primary school teacher. Students are probably already aware of Notre Dame’s excellent reputation for producing job-ready graduates and this Master's program is an excellent example, with students spending a total of 14 weeks working in a classroom setting.
This degree program is designed so that students can combine their studies with existing work and family commitments. Most of the classes at the Broadway site are taught in the evenings or on weekends.
Regardless of what students studied for their Bachelor’s degree, this Master's program provides a solid pedagogical grounding for a future career in teaching. Over the course of their studies, students will study subjects such as English, history, science, mathematics, technology and geography as well as learning the fundamentals of research methodology in Year Two.
In addition, students will be required to enroll in and pay to sit the National Literacy and Numeracy Test for Initial Teacher Education Students (LANTITE). Students must pass both the literacy and numeracy components of the test before they progress to Year Two of this program.
