This course provides introduction to the study of crime, deviance, and crime control. Course material will cover crime measurement, patterns, and trends as well as major theoretical explanations for crime. Criminal justice institutions such as police, courts, and corrections will be considered along with specific topics as they relate to criminology. These topics include social deviance, violence, white collar crime, terrorism, vice, drug use, organized crime, mental health issues, racial inequalities, women and crime, and the depiction of crime in popular media and culture
