Bachelor of Science - Computer Science at Queens College of The City University of New York
Computer Science encompasses the theory of computation, algorithms and data structures, programming methodology and languages, and computer elements and architecture. Programming is only the best-known skill in a discipline that has numerous specializations. Computer scientists design and build systems and applications for use in every field of science and technology, in the arts and media, in government and administration—in short, throughout modern society.
Computer scientists also are shaping the industries of tomorrow through areas like bioinformatics. Most computer science is pursued in teams that address technical goals from many standpoints; these range from the local, face-to-face workgroups to networked, globally distributed projects composed of people from different nations.
The Department of Computer Science receives continuous requests for its graduates from industry and government agencies. Majors acquire the necessary preparation for graduate work or for employment in programming, systems analysis, and other computer-related professions.
