Campus and location

1. Bloomington-Normal Campus

Full of mid-western charm, Illinois State’s campus is designed to be extemely walkable with buildings positioned around a central green space. Known as The Quad, this open area is a popular site on campus for students to meet up and enjoy some sunshine. It is also the home of several special events and concerts and campus organizations often set up tables with games and information. Near campus, you can enjoy the charming cities of Bloomington-Normal. With bike-friendly roads and many locally owned shops, restaurants, and art venues, there is a lot to explore in Bloomington-Normal. The campus is also located two hours from Chicago, one of the largest and most popular cities in America. Illinois State enjoys all four seasons with lush greenery in the Spring, Autumn leaves in the Fall and beautiful white snow in the winters.

University facilities

Illinois State students have many resources and services available to them. The campus offers state-of-the-art facilities, 24-hour library with dedicated librarians for every area of study, career preparation, university recreation and a variety of clubs and organizations that students can join.

You are required to complete a core high school curriculum that includes:

  • English – 4 years
    • Emphasizing written and oral communications and literature
  • Mathematics – 3 years
    • Emphasizing algebra, geometry, trigonometry, or fundamentals of computer programming
  • Science – 2 years with laboratories
    • Emphasizing natural science or agricultural science
  • Social science – 2 years
    • Emphasizing history and government
  • Foreign language/Fine arts – 2 years
    • Two years of the same language
      OR 
    • Two years of fine arts, including art or music

You’ll be required to submit a self-reported grade point average.

The middle 50% range for fall 2020 admitted freshmen was 3.20–3.90.

You are not required to submit a standardized test score as part of your application for admission.

You will still have the option to submit an SAT or ACT score—and if you were to do so, it could not affect your standing negatively.

Applicants who opt not to include an SAT or ACT score will be required to submit a high school transcript in order to complete their application for admission. For students whose application requires further review, additional information such as an academic personal statement may be requested.

Scholarship

Funding for your education

We want to make sure you have the opportunity to reach your educational goals by providing you with opportunities for financial support. We have scholarships available for both direct entry and Pathway students that can be applied to your tuition. Scholarships range from $1,000 to $12,000.

This scholarship is available for the duration of the Pathway only.

Students must be enrolled in a Pathway program. Other requirements vary; please contact your INTO representative.

 

This is a merit-based scholarship for direct entry undergraduate freshman students. The maximum value paid per year is $11,000.

Eligibility

  • Eligible for the Honors Program
  • Minimum 1360 SAT (or 30+ ACT)
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale

Eligible students will be invited to apply for this scholarship. Freshmen who meet the criteria for the Presidential Scholarship and apply for admission during our preferred filing period of September 1 – November 15 will be invited to apply for this award beginning in November. Finalists will be invited to campus to interview. The scholarship is renewable up to 3 years.

This is a merit-based scholarship for direct entry international undergraduate freshman students. The maximum paid value per year is $2,000.

Eligibility

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for $1,000;
  • 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale for $2,000

This is a merit-based scholarship for direct entry international graduate students who do not have a graduate assistantship. The maximum paid value per year is $2,000.

Eligibility

  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale

This is an automatic scholarship for eligible International Year One students progressing at the end of the Spring 2020 term and all future terms. The maximum paid value per year is $5,000.

Eligibility

  • International Year One students who have met all requirements of the Pathway
  • Cumulative Pathway GPA of at least 3.0 for $3,000, or at least 3.5 for $5,000

This is a one-time award (awarded as funds are available) for international direct entry undergraduate freshman students who complete the IB Diploma Program or the IB Career-Related Certificate Program. The maximum paid value is $1,000.

  • Completion of IB Diploma Program or IB Career-Related Certificate Program

This one-time award is granted to five direct entry international bachelor’s students who are starting in the fall semester. The maximum paid value is $5,000.

Eligibility

Student must apply and be eligible for fall semester direct entry to an Illinois State University bachelor’s degree program.

  • Scholarships awarded each year to 5 applicants based on high school GPA and responses to short essay questions on the application
