Optional Practical Training (OPT) is temporary employment that is directly related to an F-1 student’s major area of study. Eligible students can apply to receive up to 12 months of OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies (pre-completion) and/or after completing their academic studies (post-completion).

If you have earned a degree in certain science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields, you may be eligible for a 24-month extension of your post-completion OPT employment authorization.

Cooperative education (or co-operative education) and internships are methods of combining classroom-based education with practical work experience. A cooperative education experience ("co-op"), provides academic credit for structured job experience. Co-ops are full-time, paid or unpaid positions. Internships may be full-time or part-time, paid or unpaid positions.

Students need to plan their accommodations well in advance of their arrival as all accommodation options fill up quickly, well before the start of the semester.

On-Campus Residence Accommodations

TAMU-CC is committed to helping Islanders be successful in college! Because of this, first-year students are required to live on campus for at least two semesters on the Island at Miramar.

Students who are graduate program enrollees and/or individuals aged 25 and above can reside in Momentum Village Building 9, featuring 4-bedroom, 4-bathroom apartments. This intimate community creates a mature and focused environment within the living space.

Off-Campus Accommodations

The university does not manage or support any off-campus apartments. Several local apartment companies target college students, but they are not affiliated in any way with TAMU-CC. Texas A&M's two exclusive Islander Housing properties are Miramar on the Island Campus and Momentum Village on the Momentum Campus.
