About

Notre Dame is a private Catholic University, extending from the West Coast of Australia in the beautiful and historic City of Fremantle, to the North-West town of Broome and across the continent to the heart of Sydney.
Notre Dame embraces the ancient and esteemed traditions of Catholic Universities in Europe, North America and 2000 years of the Catholic Intellectual Tradition. It welcomes people of all faiths or none at all. As an academic community, Notre Dame welcomes open and rigorous enquiry, debate and discussion.

Notre Dame has an enrolment of over 12,000 students and offers a comprehensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The student experience, employment and graduate outcomes are among the very best in Australia. Notre Dame provides its students with the theoretical knowledge and professional skills which will empower them to realise their potential, build interconnectedness with all peoples and willingly serve the community through active participation, engagement and reflection.

The school has a powerful commitment to honouring the individual and recognises that each student is graced with their own gifts and talents. Notre Dame believes that higher education should prepare students for a rich, fulfilling and reflective life, not just a career path. The University of Notre Dame Australia is a modern Catholic University, operating in a world in which the vast speed of change is felt in nearly all aspects of our daily lives. It brings to bear traditions and values to engage in scholarship and research, to address the developments and challenges of the modern world, to serve the common good and to assist all students to achieve the academic excellence that the school promotes and expect.

Fremantle boasts a thriving commercial fishing fleet and is increasingly popular with tourists who come for its al fresco dining, convict monuments, quirky shops, museums and weekly produce market.

Why The University of Notre Dame Australia - Freemantle
  • Scholarships: The University of Notre Dame offers generous International Welcome Scholarships of up to 25% to provide tuition assistance to international students. The scholarship will last for the full duration of their program and is awarded as a partial tuition fee waiver.
  • Professional Experience: At Notre Dame, students are set up for life beyond university. Students learn from academics who have extensive experience in their fields. Through practicum placements, internship and volunteering programs, students will graduate with experience on their CV – a real advantage in getting the job they want. According to results of the latest longitudinal Graduate Outcomes Survey, 92.7% of Notre Dame’s undergraduates were employed full-time within three years of graduating.
  • Location: First accepting students in 1992, this campus is perfectly located, just a short 3-minute walk from Bathers Beach, 5 minutes from all major transport hubs and a 30-minute train ride to Perth CBD. Located at the mouth of the Swan River, Fremantle has been the major port for Western Australia since the very beginnings of European settlement in 1829. Despite its proximity to Perth (just 14kms upriver), Fremantle has maintained its own unique identity which is reflected in its mixture of colonial, late Victorian and Edwardian architecture; some of Australia’s best-preserved convict era structures can be found here. Since the opening of The University of Notre Dame Australia in 1989 Fremantle has also been known as ‘a university town’ and supports a growing student population.
  • Catholic Intellectual Tradition: Notre Dame degrees, based in the Catholic intellectual tradition of liberal education, equip students with an increased ability to think and reason, a vital advantage not only during study but far beyond to their professional and personal lives. Students are encouraged to expand their minds. They learn to think creatively and critically, to see the world, its opportunities and their place in it more clearly. They learn to learn for life. This is done through Core Curriculum courses in Philosophy, Theology and Ethics which are part of all Notre Dame degrees. They are designed to provide a unique and enduring advantage in all aspects of daily life.

Features

55 out of 55 programs are eligible for Temporary Graduate Visa.

The Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485) allows international students who have recently graduated from an Australian institution to live, study, and work in Australia temporarily after they finish their studies.
This visa is divided into two streams:

  • Graduate Work stream – For international students who have skills and qualifications that relate to an occupation on Australia's Skilled Occupation List. This stream grants a visa for up to 18 months.
  • Post-Study Work stream – For international students who have recently graduated with a degree from an Australian institution. This stream can grant a visa for 2 to 4 years depending on the qualification level (bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree).

The Temporary Graduate Visa helps graduates gain work experience in Australia, and in some cases, it may also help them qualify for a skilled migration visa if they meet additional criteria.

At the Fremantle Campus, students can choose between living in the heart of the historic West End, five minutes from the beach, or nearby in either shared or private rental accommodation. Students need to plan their accommodations well in advance of their arrival as all accommodation options fill up quickly, well before the start of the semester.

On-Campus Residence Accommodations

Residence Halls are located on campus and rooms are not uniform in size – you may be allocated a single or twin room. Bathroom facilities are shared, as are self-catering kitchen facilities. On-Campus residence accommodations are provided per discretion by the school.

Off-Campus Accommodations

The local area has a variety of off-campus rental housing options including single homes, duplexes, apartments and rooms for rent. Students wishing to live off-campus need to research availability on their own and should arrive well before the start of term to do so.
