3-Year Bachelor's Degree

Program Summary

Program Description

The combined 4 year programme allows students with lower academic marks, or whose qualifications are not equivalent to British A Levels, to gain the necessary qualifications to proceed to undergraduate study.  After completing the Foundation Year, students will be eligible to progress to a number of University of Chester undergraduate programmes.

Geographers at Chester are as likely to be analysing earth surface materials or studying cultural interpretations of landscape, as to be using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to plan a solar farm or mapping the carbon footprint of a rural community. All this ensures they will develop the skills needed by a wide range of employers.

This distinct, contemporary, course offers a balanced coverage of physical and human geography with a focus on the pressing environmental issues facing today's societies. The flexibility of the course allows specialism in a range of human and physical geography sub-disciplines, or to study a balanced mixture. It focuses on transferable, employment-related skills and knowledge, while fieldwork opportunities both in the UK and overseas provide you with a greater understanding of places. The course encourages you to use the latest technological innovations in classroom and fieldwork contexts and provides the opportunity for specialist degree training in aspects of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS). A wide variety of assessment types ensure you have the opportunity to play to your strengths while also developing new skills.
