Master of Arts - Design

Master's Degree

Program Summary

The Design, MA degree is an innovative multidisciplinary programme with two endorsements (MA Spatial Design and MA Design Diplomacy). Greenwich focuses on ideas and practices that use methods such as co-design to explore how design diversity can empower practice and generate research in new and exciting ways.

This master's degree also questions whether the design processes can amplify, diversify, and mobilize people - critically engaging with its own processes of world building. Learning will expand on current and future understanding of how to design inclusively from a variety of disciplines to answer crucial philosophical and practice-related questions.

Students will be taught by an experienced team of lecturers, which includes senior academics, practitioners with industry experience and technical demonstrators. As a practice-based Master's degree, students will spend most of their time in the studios or off-site developing their work alongside tutorial supervision. In a typical week, they'll have workshops, seminars and critiques to discuss their work with colleagues and tutors. Visiting artists will be made available each term for specialist lectures, workshops and tutorials. Theory courses will be taught alongside other Master's programmes to encourage subject crossover and multidisciplinary views.

The programme will prepare and support the students in finding a placement or a job with a number of planned activities such as portfolio preparation sessions, networking events, finding and sharing information about placements that can be done remotely or in physical space, inviting directors, designers, and artists to share their own experience in the creative industry and give students the tips about starting their career.

As a Designer, graduates can establish a working practice of their own specialism and/or develop a career within a wide range of design industries, architectural companies, museums, and cultural organizations. Those who wish to join companies will find employment in fields which include Design Diversity and Inclusion, Exhibition Design, Inclusive Architectural Design and Design Diplomacy.
