Master of Music - Music History

The Master of Music - Music History program offers students affordability and flexibility with several specialization choices and multiple thesis/non-thesis tracks to customize their plan of study. The University of South Dakota offers the only master's of music degrees in the state, and the program has been accredited though NASM since 1956 and by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education.

The program provides students with the knowledge and skills they need to become a professional musician. Students can increase their knowledge of music in the western world from classical antiquity to the present. The music history specialization provides graduate-level training in the six style periods and introduction to world music, preparing them for further doctoral study or for a career as a music historian, college professor or music librarian.
