About

From humble beginnings, and through a series of name changes that led to a 1958 vote of the people and a victory for the advancement of Arizona State College to Arizona State University (ASU), ASU’s century-plus trajectory has led to its being recognized as the most innovative university in the country by U.S. News & World Report — six years in a row. The educational experience at ASU is an immersion in a living-learning academic enterprise — a mindset focused on innovation and entrepreneurship, and a deep commitment to serving the public interest during a time of rapid and complex societal change. Nationally and internationally acclaimed, ASU consistently ranks among the very best in nearly every critical measurement of student success, outcomes of groundbreaking research and impact in the communities it serves.

Located in northwest Phoenix, ASU’s West campus is home to students pursuing degrees in the health industry, business, education, and interdisciplinary arts and science programs. The West campus of ASU creates a learning community blending liberal arts education with 21st-century workforce preparation. This combination is exemplified by the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences, and degree programs offered by the W. P. Carey School of Business, the College of Nursing and Health Innovation, Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College and the College of Health Solutions. The West campus is home to the first undergraduate degree to be offered by Thunderbird School of Global Management and a noted BS in Forensic Science through New College.

Students need to plan their accommodations well in advance of their arrival as all accommodation options fill up quickly, well before the start of the semester. Please see https://goglobal.asu.edu/international/housing for more information.

On-Campus Residence Accommodations

If ASU Housing still has space remaining, students may apply for housing after they receive their official university acceptance. On-campus housing is assigned on a first come, first-served basis and placement is not guaranteed. On-campus housing may fill before you are even able to apply.

Off-Campus Accommodations

The local area has a variety of off-campus rental housing options including single homes, duplexes, apartments and rooms for rent. Students wishing to live off-campus need to research availability on their own and should arrive well before the start of term to do so. Note that very few apartments are fully-furnished and require residents to purchase or rent their own bed, furniture, kitchen supplies, etc.

Homestay

International students are guests in their host family’s house. Considering that, it is important for the guest to be open to and flexible with the family’s customs, lifestyle, rules, and cultural habits that will most likely be different than the international student’s.

Every host family is different. One student’s homestay experience will vary greatly from another student’s homestay experience.

Host families come from middle-class to upper-class backgrounds. It is important for the student to respect the host family’s lifestyle related to their economic status.

Host families vary in size. Examples of host families include one older adult and a pet, a large family with parents and children, or a young couple.

Some meals are provided by the host family. See the provider website above for more information.

Most homestays are within a 20-minute to one-hour commute to ASU using public transportation. Host families do not provide transportation

Homestays generally cost between $800-$1,000 monthly and also include an application fee and possibly other fees.

Applications for homestays should be submitted to the company a minimum of two months prior to your session start date.
